Bunyād, the annual double-blind peer-reviewed scholarly Urdu research journal published its 13th volume this year and the Gurmani Centre is delighted to start the Fall semester with a session dedicated to introducing it to our readers. The journal features unpublished works on Urdu language, literature, culture, linguistics, semantics, history, and philosophy. Recognized as a ‘Y’ Category journal by HEC, Bunyād is widely appreciated as a prestigious platform dedicated to archival research and academic writing in the Urdu language.

The session will be hosted by Dr. Nasir Abbas Nayyar and Dr. Fatima Fayyaz—two esteemed scholars of South Asian literature at LUMS. The guest panel will include three eminent scholars two of whom have seen the journal grow and gain prominence over the years. These are Prof. Yasmeen Hameed (poet, translator) the founding director of GCLL and Dr. Najiba Arif (Dean IIUI-Islamabad, poet, scholar), the former editor of Bunyād. They will be accompanied by Dr. Shaista Sharif (Assistant Prof. Govt. College for Women, Gulberg, Lahore), a regular contributor to the journal. The discussion will give you an opportunity to learn about the journal’s journey from inception to its present position, the experiences of people whose laborious efforts finetuned it over the years and its reception and impact in the academic circles in Pakistan and abroad.
