mgs

This semester's first LUMS Quarterly Debate jointly organised by Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS) and the Debates and Recitation Society at LUMS (DRUMS) was held on the February 17, 2016.

The motion for the debate was “This House Believes that Privatization has Been a Failure in Pakistan”, with Asad Umar (PTI), Nafisa Shah (PPP) and Asim Sajjad (AWP) arguing for the proposition and Miftah Ismail (Chairman BOI, and special assistant to the PM), Dr. Salman Shah (ex Chairman Privatisation Commission and Caretaker Minister of Finance) and Feisal Naqvi (Lawyer on Habib Bank and PIA privatisations) representing the opposition. The spirited debate was held before a packed audience that voted predominantly to support the motion at the close of the debate. MGSHSS is pleased to continue this tradition of sharing ideas and opinions in a tolerant, well informed atmosphere. The next debate will be held in April 2016.
