Abstract
The 2022 Floods have severely impacted 84 districts of Pakistan. Since mid-June, around 1700 people have lost their lives and 12,865 have been injured across the country. Over 33 million people have been impacted while 2 million houses have either been completely destroyed or damaged (UN OCHA, 2022; NDMA, 2022). While water levels are receding, a population of more than 600,000 is still living in temporary make-shift refugee sites. The panel discussion focuses on the initial disaster response across the four provinces while deliberating the challenges faced during the pre-flooding response stage and the ongoing post-flooding needs of rescue, relief, and rehabilitation. It then moves on to focus on the merits and limitations of the current institutional framework for managing flood disasters in Pakistan along with other emerging response networks that will be under discussion.
