Visiting Faculty Position in History

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences is seeking a visiting faculty for its History program at the rank of Assistant Professor. It will be a fixed term contract for one year commencing from fall 2020 with no possibility of extension at the termination of the year-long contract. Candidates who are in advanced stages of their PhDs are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have to teach three courses in the year.

We have a vibrant faculty with diverse research interests and teaching portfolios covering such areas as Asian history, European history, and Art and Architecture of South Asia and Islamic world. The successful candidate can have a research focus on any region of the world.

Faculty Position in Film Studies

The Gurmani Centre for Languages and Literature at the Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS), Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Lahore, Pakistan, invites applications for a full-time assistant professor (tenure track) position in South Asian Film/Cinema Studies. This initiative envisions a greater engagement with creative arts and hopes to grow towards incorporating a serious film studies track within the existing programs. Candidates should have a PhD in Film Studies (South Asian Cinema) or a related field with teaching experience at the undergraduate level. Candidates with some experience in film making and editing will be preferred. The candidate should also be committed towards the administrative work that comes with developing a young and exciting program. The appointment will commence in Fall of 2019.

Faculty Position in Economics

Assistant Professor (tenure track) position in Psychology

The qualified person will be a Senior Associate Professor or Full Professor (Ph.D. required) whose research and teaching focus on the areas of International Relations/Political Science.

The research concentration can range from conflict and security studies to multi- or bi-lateral diplomacy within south Asia or in other geographical regions (Middle East, Africa, Latin America, Europe, East Asia). Preferably, the Chair will have further specialization in the study of International Cooperation and Institutions.

In addition to teaching and other responsibilities, the Chair should be able to provide academic leadership and mentor junior faculty. The resources available to the Chair should enable him/her to offer programmatic initiative to make LUMS a centre of excellence in the field of International Relations.

Assistant Professor Tenure Track Position

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences seeks two tenure-track interdisciplinary hires at the assistant professor level. While the area of specialization is open, the new hires will complement, but not duplicate existing specializations in the department. Consequently, priority will be given to candidates with expertise in areas where the department presently does not have expertise. These may include but are not limited to environmental studies and political ecology, spatial and data analyses, policy and planning, migration and labor, information sciences and conservation. Ability to teach quantitative methods to undergraduate students will be considered an asset. While teaching responsibilities will be determined in consultation with the dean and chair, the candidate is expected to teach between existing disciplines as required, with one-third of her teaching devoted to the school core.

Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Gurmani Center for Language and Literature (GCLL) and the Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS) at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) announces two Postdoctoral Fellow positions for the academic year 2022-2023 (ten- month duration).

Successful candidates will teach one course during each semester and will participate in the ongoing activities of the Gurmani Center and MGSHSS. Candidates should have their PhDs in hand by August 31, 2022. We prefer candidates who have completed their PhDs in the last three-five years and their scholarship has an interdisciplinary focus, bringing together debates in the Humanities and the qualitative Social Sciences (Anthropology, History, Comparative Literature, Art History, Film Studies and other related disciplines).

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences invites applications for a Full-time Tenure-Track Faculty Position at the Assistant Professor Level in the Environmental Humanities and Social Sciences. While the area of specialization is open, the selected candidate’s teaching and research expertise will speak to current ecological, environmental, and climate crises, and reflect current research in the humanities or the social sciences in relation to the environment. The area of specialization may include but is not limited to, critical geography, urban studies, environmental policy and planning, environmental justice, and political ecology. Candidates should highlight any expertise in discipline specific methods (for example GIS, Environmental Impact Assessments). The candidate would be expected to develop an active high-quality research agenda in the environmental humanities and social sciences. The selected candidate would teach undergraduate students taking the wide range of degrees offered by the School, including in particular the department's two degrees focused on politics: the BSc (Honours) in Political Science and the BSc (Honours) in Politics and Economics. Both programs encourage students to examine Pakistan and the wider globalizing world using a variety of conceptual lenses supplied by the social sciences, learn multiple ways of solving problems, and explore areas of inquiry that intersect traditional disciplines.

The candidates will have a specialization in any field of Politics, International Relations, Comparative Politics, and Political Economy. While specialization is open, the ability to teach quantitative methods would be considered an advantage. They should demonstrate a strong interest in and commitment to undergraduate teaching in Pakistan, an active research and publishing program in one of the fields noted above, and a commitment to institution-building. The selected candidate will also be expected to contribute to the intellectual life of the department and the university more broadly.

Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Lahore, Pakistan, invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) for its program in Comparative Literary and Cultural Studies (CLCS). The program has a strong core faculty with interests in Persian, Urdu, Punjabi, and world literatures and cultures, and screen studies, filmmaking, and creative writing. 

The program is searching for a candidate with interests in comparative literature that pertain to South Asia and adjoining regions. Candidates should have an interest in literatures and cultures of languages such as Urdu, Persian, Punjabi, Sindhi, Balochi etc. and should be able to teach courses in their areas of research, participate in a team-taught core, and take on or develop new courses. The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS), Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Lahore, Pakistan, invites applications for a full-time assistant professor (tenure track) position in any discipline to teach courses in Gender and Sexuality Studies. Applicants should be able to teach courses in feminist theory, and gender and queer studies, including two of the core courses and one elective as part of the Gender and Sexuality Studies Minor. Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. (in social sciences and humanities) with a focus on gender and sexuality at the time of appointment, exhibit a clear vision for teaching, and show evidence of research. The successful candidate will be required to teach undergraduate students, achieve high standards of research, serve on departmental/university committees, provide input towards the development of the Gender and Sexuality Studies Minor, and contribute to the Saida Waheed Gender Initiative. This is an on-campus position and requires the faculty member to be physically present on campus for teaching and other academic activities during the academic year.

Postdoctoral Fellowship- (MGSHSS- LUMS)

The Gurmani Center for Language and Literature (GCLL) and the Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS) at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) announces two Postdoctoral Fellow positions for the academic year 2023-2024. These would be for a ten- month duration from August 2023 to May 2024.

Successful candidates will teach one course during each semester and will participate in the ongoing activities of the Gurmani Center and MGSHSS. Fellows would be required to be physically on campus during the two semesters. Candidates should have their PhDs in hand by August 31, 2023.  We prefer candidates who have completed their PhDs in the last three-five years and their scholarship has an interdisciplinary focus, bringing together debates in the Humanities and the qualitative Social Sciences (Anthropology, History,  Sociology, Comparative Literature, Art History, Film Studies and other related disciplines).

Faculty Position in Philosophy (MGSHSS-LUMS)

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS), Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Lahore, Pakistan, invites applications for full-time faculty at the level of Assistant Professor (tenure track) in the area of Philosophy. Candidates should be able to offer a variety of undergraduate core courses in Philosophy as well as more specialized courses within their area of specialization. The successful candidate will be required to teach undergraduate students, achieve high standards of research, serve on departmental/university committees, and provide input for the development of the Philosophy program at LUMS.  The appointment will commence in the Fall of 2023. Candidates should have a doctoral degree in Philosophy at the time of appointment.

Faculty Position (Teaching Fellow) in Pakistan Studies (MGSHSS-LUMS)

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS), Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Lahore, Pakistan, invites applications for a full-time yearly contract faculty position (Teaching Fellow) in the area of Pakistan Studies. Candidates are required to teach an undergraduate university core course: Pakistan Studies. The successful candidate will be required to teach undergraduate students 8 sections of Pakistan Studies (2 Credit Hours each) in a year. The appointment will commence in August 2023. Candidates should have a Masters in a related field at the time of appointment.
