Faculty Profile

Dr. Muhammad Farooq Naseer

Assistant Professor

Economics

Farooq Naseer is a development economist with interests in education, human development and political economy. He teaches econometric methods to undergraduate and graduate students at LUMS and has previously taught development and microeconomics. His work often requires the use of empirical methods with rich micro-data from household and community surveys to study issues ranging from social stratification, poverty and inter-generational mobility to voting preferences in rural Pakistan as well as learning outcomes in schools. His empirical research has informed policy decisions by various government agencies at the national and provincial level. More recently, he has engaged with the Government of Punjab on a research project to evaluate innovations in the existing model of in-service teacher training. In addition, he is part of an international team of researchers which is providing technical assistance to Punjab government in the design and evaluation of the Punjab Economic Opportunities Programme.

Naseer is a Research Fellow at the Center for Economic Research in Pakistan, an Associate Fellow at IDEAS and a member of the Consortium for Development Policy Research.

Dr. Naseer holds a BSc in economics from LUMS and an MA and PhD in economics from Yale University.
