The first Quarterly Debate of 2018, hosted by DRUMS (Debates & Recitation Society at LUMS) and the Dean’s Office, was conducted on March 6, 2018. The motion for deliberation was: This House Believes That The Government’s Concession To Tehreek-e-Labaik’s Demands Was Highly Harmful To National Interests. The Proposition bench comprised of Dr. Pervez Hoodbhoy, Ms. Gul Bukhari, and Mr. Jibran Nasir, all renowned personalities. On the Opposition side of the debate were three lawyers, Mr. Ahmed Pansota, Ms. Misha Mansoor, and Mr. Saad Rasool, all of whom presented a well-prepared case for a tough motion. It was a full house in SS auditorium as students queued outside to listen to this highly engaging and intense debate. Both teams presented their alternative points of view with great vigor and conviction. After the debate ended, the panel engaged with the audience in a highly informative question-answer session. The team opposition was declared the winner of the debate by a victory of 146-128 votes, causing the motion to fail.
