Prof. Kamal Munir's Research to be Published in International Journals and Conferences

Friday, July 1, 2016

Dean of the LUMS Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS)Prof. Kamal Munir's paper has been accepted in the history journal, Modern Asian Studies. The paper is titled 'Privatization in the Land of Believers: The Political Economy of Privatization in Pakistan'. Using qualitative and quantitative data, the authors describe the motivations behind privatizations in energy and banking sectors, the process by which they were carried out, and analysed the post-privatization performance of these organisations and sectors. The analysis sheds new light on the process by which privatization in the absence of a state with the capacity to discipline business interests, may enable these interests to obtain state-sponsored rents without bringing any of the associated benefits for economic development.

The Modern Asian Studies is a journal of the Cambridge University, UK, which promotes original, innovative and rigorous research on the history, sociology, economics and culture of modern Asia. Covering South Asia, South-East Asia, China, Japan and Korea, the journal is published in six parts each year. It publishes articles which deploy inter-disciplinary and comparative research methods. Modern Asian Studies specialises in the publication of longer monographic essays based on path-breaking new research; it carries substantial synoptic essays which illuminate the state of the broad field in fresh ways, and also publishes longer review essays that discuss important new books.

Dr. Munir’s research focuses on economic sociology, social change and stability as well as innovation and technological shifts in society.
