On February 3, 2020, the Dean's Office MGSHSS at LUMS organized a talk by Dr. Chris Moffat titled ‘Thinking with Unfinished Buildings – Between Construction and Ruination in Lahore’. The talk reflected on the history, revival, and incompletion of the Bab-e-Pakistan memorial complex since its inception almost thirty years ago and further explored the political as well as social symbolism that the unfinished memorial represents in terms of the phases of its construction and re-planning under various governments. Further exploring the diverse social practices and lifeforms that animate the site, the talk concluded with an engaging discussion on the social conditions and possibilities offered by the supposed ‘ruins’ of the memorial complex.
