Kiyoshi Taniguchi is a principal economist at the Economic Research and Regional Cooperation Department, the Asian Development Bank (ADB). At current capacity, he led the preparation of many country diagnostic studies for ADB developing member countries including Pakistan. He is also leading study teams to conduct impact evaluation. Within ADB, he held several economist positions including at the Private Sector Operations Department, the Uzbekistan Resident Mission, and the Pacific Department. Prior to his current position, he was an economist for the Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Network of the World Bank, stationed in Jakarta, Indonesia. He started his career as an economist at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Rome, Italy. He held several research and teaching positions at the International University of Japan, the Westminster International University in Tashkent, and the University of the Philippines. He holds a PhD and master’s degree in economics from the Ohio State University, a bachelor of science in economics with honor from the University of Oregon, and bachelor of law from the Chiba University in Japan.
