This Fall semester, the Gurmani Centre in collaboration with Gad and Brigit Rausing Library is hosting ‘Bazm-e-Ghalib’, a series of eight lectures on the renowned Urdu poet, Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib.
Each lecture is led by a prominent scholar, who selects one of Ghalib’s ghazals to discuss for the session. As reading classical Urdu poetic texts can be difficult, they guide the participants in interpreting it, discovering each ghazal’s layers of meaning.
The first four lectures, led by Dr. Zahid Munir Amir, Mr. Suheyl Umer, and Dr. Tehsin Feraqi, were very well received by LUMS students and professors, as well as academics and visitors from outside the LUMS community. Upcoming sessions will also be headed by important scholars of Urdu.
